Most Effective Tactics to Beat Fibromyalgia

At Starting Point, we specialize in hard to treat cases such as fibromyalgia aka Fibro. What exactly is fibromyalgia? It is defined as a generalized chronic disorder that affects the musculoskeletal system and is often associated with other symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, sleep disturbance, and widespread pain. Fibro is mainly diagnosed based on clinical symptoms. Often prescription drugs are prescribed to help with symptoms or cognitive behavior therapy, however, most patients continue to have symptoms or do not want to take more medications due to unwanted side effects. Many people are exploring alternative options to help decrease symptoms associated with fibro. How can acupuncture help cases such as fibromyalgia?

What do the studies say?

There are many studies looking at if acupuncture can help and how it actually can help because there are limited treatment options for people with fibromyalgia.

In a recent, 2022 study in the Journal of Pain Research, looked at over 280 studies examining how acupuncture could be beneficial for fibromyalgia. This study showed that acupuncture was effective at relieving pain associated with fibromyalgia as well as anxiety, depression, and fatigue.

In another study, looking at how acupuncture compared to IV Lidocaine, and diet, could help patients with fibro. The study found that acupuncture showed significant effect in management of pain, reduced depression, and improved quality of life. Compared to IV Lidocaine and diet, showed no significant differences when compared to placebo. Do note that the diets examined in this study may show “promising” benefits for fibro patients. Diets examined where low-caloric diets, raw vegetarian diets.

At Starting Point, we provide a comprehensive approach to care using multiple therapies to help address all aspects of fibromyalgia.
