Treatments for fatigue

You’ve been diagnosed with Fibro, now what?

The first step, understand the facts:

Fibro aka Fibromyalgia is a real disorder. That’s not to say it’s not a very complicated and difficult to diagnose disorder.

Chances are you’ve been dismissed by practitioners in the past who say “the pain is all in your head” or “seeing a psychologist is the answer”

It causes significant and widespread pain that seems to travel from day-to-day, even moment-to-moment.

It’s also associated with severe symptoms like debilitating fatigue and “brain fog” which impairs your cognitive faculties.

There’s often no clear explanation or cause for these symptoms.

Fibromyalgia often coexists with mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. That’s not to say Fibromyalgia is caused by anxiety or depression, or vice versa.

And unfortunately the only treatment prescribed by most professionals is prescription medications that either don’t work or come with harmful side effects. Read Dr. Heintze’s previous post on how we can help fibro, here.

How can acupuncture help?

With fibromyalgia present in about 10% of the population and with little long-term standard treatment options. Acupuncture has been found to be effective at treating fibromyalgia and associated symptoms. A recent meta-analysis study showed that acupuncture was significantly better than placebo for relieving pain and improving quality of life in patients with fibromyalgia. In addition the long-term effect of acupuncture was examined and found that even at 6 months post-study, the effect of acupuncture at reducing symptoms was still present pointing to conclusions that acupuncture may provide long-term relief with little to no side effects.

At Starting Point, we specialize in difficult to treat cases and use a combined treatment approach to care.
