Spring Body Cleansing Tips

If you are feeling a little sluggish or having a hard time shaking those winter ‘blues.’ It might be a good time to detox, as the season is transitioning to help your body with natural detox. Let’s explore some spring cleansing tips.

Here are some of Dr. Heintze’s top ways to help promote cleansing this spring:

Hydration

We all know that we are supposed to ‘drink more water’ but how much should you be drinking? Being properly hydrated is key for not only overall health of your organs, muscles, and cells but can help you achieve optimal health. It is still standard to try and drink half your body weight in ounces of water a day. Ideally, to help your body use the water more efficiently, you can add electrolytes into your water or add a little apple cider vinegar (ACV). ACV works to stabilize your body’s internal pH levels and offers a superb cleansing and detoxifying beverage that’s perfect for the spring season.

Limit Screen Time

Did you know that your eyes are connected to every organ in your body in some manner? With that said, the liver has the strongest connection to the eyes. When your eye health begins to decline, so does your liver. Take care of your eyes by limiting your time in front screens to limit exposure to blue lights is key for helping to promote eye health as well as overall health. Studies show that blue light exposure, especially long-term, can affect many physiologic functions, including circadian rhythm disruption. If your sleep is off or you are not getting high quality sleep, it can interfere with your body’s ability to heal, repair, and reboot aka get into that parasympathetic mode which is key for helping your body detox and cleanse. Having proper sleep hygiene and limiting screen time in the evening can help to keep you functionally optimally.

Chlorophyll benefits in cleansing

Chlorophyll

Consuming chlorophyll may help promote cleansing in the body. Chlorophyll is the pigment responsible for giving all green plants their color – will strengthen your liver. Chlorophyll has been shown to help in the repair and growth of tissues. It has been found to efficiently deliver magnesium and helps the blood in carrying oxygen to cells and tissues. It may also help to chelate heavy metals and neutralize free radicals.

Some excellent sources of chlorophyll include: neem and curry leaves, mint, spinach, parsley, garden cress, green beans, green peppers, brussel sprouts, green peas, asparagus, broccoli, zucchini, cucumbers, green apples, melon, honeydew and kiwi.

*Pro-tip: If you use the sauna regularly, adding a drop of chlorophyll liquid to your water and drink while you are in your sauna session may help to promote detox as the Chlorophyll can help to bind to toxins and help your body to eliminate them.

Get Outdoors & Movement

The blooming plant life and warming temperatures offers the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and exercise. Exercise and fresh outdoor air stimulate blood flow as well as endorphins. This increase in blood flow can help our muscles to relax. Something as simple as a 30-minute walk or jog around the neighborhood can make a world of difference in your health.

Get Safe and Effective Cleansing Treatments

We can’t talk about ways to cleanse the body this spring without mentioning acupuncture. Acupuncture is the essence of helping the body promote detoxification as well as re-booting the nervous system. From relieving seasonal allergies to reducing pain and inflammation, the benefits of acupuncture are endless. In a current study, showed that acupuncture can help modulate the inflammatory process via vagus nerve stimulation. This study found just how specific acupuncture points could help calm sympathetic “fight or flight response” and promote anti-inflammatory actions in the body. When our body is able to rest, relax, and repair (in the parasympathetic state), our body is able to start healing and cleansing aka detox so we can function optimally. So, yeah, acupuncture is a time-tested modality to help your body, help itself, to function as it should!
